First Communion Retreat
At Good Shepherd, all the Baptized are invited to share Holy Communion with us, sharing our belief that Jesus Christ is truly present in, with and under the bread and the wine.
Good Shepherd celebrates the gift of the Lord's Supper by offering First Communion for children and adults on Palm Sunday every year. Preparation involves a home study of video tapes and Bible readings, followed by a retreat with Pastor Jim, the First Communicant and a parent or spouse on the Saturday before Palm Sunday, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. We explore the history and meaning of Holy Communion, prepare "communion soup" for lunch, bake communion bread and fashion a "common cup" for the entire family's use during the Sunday worship service the next day. Readiness for the Lord's Supper is a decision made in conversation between Pastor, parents and child.
This is a wonderful opportunity for newly baptized youth and adults, baptized children who seek a closer relationship with Jesus Christ, or those who have already communed but have had no instructions in the Lord's Supper. To enroll, complete the blue Faithworks form during the service or contact Pastor Jim to enroll in our next session.
