This Sunday
Here is a summary of the events at Good Shepherd this Sunday:
Sunday, March 14
Announcements
- The Noisy Offering for March is designated for the Resident Library
at Resthaven Care Center.
- Come gather with us each Wednesday evening throughout Lent, February
24-March 24, for “Simple Suppers” from 5:30 - 6:45 pm, followed
by Lenten Vespers at 7:00 pm. Sign up for the Simple Suppers at the
activities table. Come to either or both as your schedule permits.
- Tapestry is interested in offering a Yoga or Tai Chi class if there
is interest. If anyone knows of a person who might teach such a class,
please contact Vicki Russell (vicki0528@gmail.com) or Donna Preisler
(preislerg@yahoo.com).
- We’re gathering the congregation together at Good Shepherd
for a strategic planning retreat, Saturday, March 13, from 8:30 am to
2:30 pm. We’ll discuss the time and talent survey completed during
worship in February, new opportunities for ministries offered by our
new church home, a vision for that ministry, and the structures we need
to put in place for those ministries to occur. Our facilitator will
be Pastor Paul Kehnle, well-received here as a preacher and presider
at worship in Pastor Jim’s absence. Pastor Kehnle brings an extensive
background in both parish ministry and administration of the synod camping
ministries, currently assisting in the synod candidacy process. We’ll
serve breakfast snacks to get you going and a light lunch at noon. Due
to the length of time involved in the retreat, childcare will not be
provided.
- All children in 3rd grade and up - please plan to join us at the
church on Sunday, March 21, from
3:00 -5:00 pm for a service project. We will be coordinating with the Sunday School classes to provide crafts and Easter Trail Mix to the Holland Rescue Mission. RSVP's to Elizabeth Brubaker are always appreciated, but we're happy to have you join us whenever you make that decision!
- First Communion for children will be offered Palm Sunday, March 28.
Preparation involves a home study of video tapes and Bible readings,
followed by a retreat with Pastor Jim, the First Communicant and a parent
or spouse, Saturday, March 27, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. We’ll
explore the history and meaning of the Lord’s Supper, prepare
“communion soup” for lunch, bake communion bread together,
and fashion a “common cup” for the entire family’s
use during the Sunday worship service. Enroll by contacting Pastor Jim
at pastorjim.gslc@sbcglobal.net or 772-4075, see him after Sunday worship,
or note your interest on a blue Faithworks form and place it in the
Sunday offering.
- We’re planning a community Easter Egg Hunt for Saturday, April 3. We already have the eggs -- now we need your help, as we will be collecting items to fill those eggs. Suggested items include: candy, fruit snacks, stickers, temporary tattoos, or other small trinkets that would fit inside plastic eggs. Look for the designated basket near the Welcome Center for your donations. For more information or to volunteer to help with please contact Jessica Underhill at 772-2745 or brianjessunderhill@yahoo.com.
